AN excellent letter from Dennis Stinchcombe about celebrating St George's Day and making it a national holiday.
I see funding for the Gay Parade has been increased by thousands of pounds yet Bristolians have nothing for England's national day on April 23. Unfortunately the St Paul's Carnival has lost some funding with cuts, and they were getting £250,000 a year.
But St George's Day gets not one penny and barely a mention with total indifference from the Lib-Dem run council. I ask the question 'What about equality and fairness for the people who support St George's Day?'
I find it frustrating when the Post poll showed 80 per cent of people questioned said they were in favour of celebrating St George's Day and making the day a National Holiday.
Yet, we have no support from the Bristol City Council. Despite the fact that it takes in the Bristol public's council tax together with central government funding and has £1 billion turnover according to Mr Cameron.
I also noticed across England, the polls conducted by national papers and other local papers re St George's Day all get approximately 80 per cent of voters supporting the cause. This is a vote catcher if ever there was!
