THE Tobacco Factory Theatre has more than doubled its yearly audience figures in the last three years.
While setting out a plan for 2012 to 2015 the theatre revealed audiences had grown from 40,000 to 85,000.
The figures are part of a planning report issued as Geoff Clements, previous chair of the board of trustees, handed over the role.
Director Ali Robertson said: "During his time with us Geoff has worked tirelessly, from attending and supporting all theatre events, to building the board of trustees as we see it today, and to securing the current 25 year lease for the theatre. And much more besides. Geoff will be sorely missed but we wish him all the very best for the future and are very pleased to have his successor, Sarah Smith, on board."
The report set out plans to work with emerging regional artists and host work from culturally important national and international figures.
The work is thanks to investment of up to £210,000 thanks to Arts Council England's Catayst programme.
Ms Robertson added: "We are absolutely delighted to have been granted this funding. The Tobacco Factory has been performing strongly over the last few years and we are looking forward with confidence to an even better and brighter future."
