The Red Sox fell to 62-73 on the season and 0-6 on their nine-game West Coast swing with a 6-2 loss to the A's on Sunday. The Sox were outscored 33-5 in the three games in Oakland and now stand a season-worst 11 games below .500.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Through six games of the West Coast trip Sox starters have allowed 45 hits and 27 earned runs in 27 1/3 innings (11.52 ERA). The A's homered twice off of Matsuzaka, solo shots from Seth Smith and Stephen Drew.
